👋 I'm James, the human behind Recap.

When I moved to Roswell, GA, I was eager to be informed about the local government, but found it difficult to get started. There were a ton of super long meetings and news coverage was scarce — despite Roswell's nearly $200M budget, day-to-day government decisions weren't covered in the local press.

Roswell isn't unique here. Across the country, newsrooms are stretched thin. The result is that many government decisions happen without most people being aware that they were scheduled in the first place. The consequence is a gap in our collective understanding, which hinders effective civic participation. It's not possible to stay informed in a low effort way.

Recap was born from this challenge. By using large language models and tapping into a wealth of public recordings and documents, Recap is making local government more accessible, starting with Roswell. My goal is to make it effortless to stay informed.
